The Art of Reflecting

I recently read an article about reflection by one of my favorite bloggers Amber-Janae. Naturally this is the time of year when we make it a point to reflect on our life, on the past year and where we'd like to go. This got me thinking....why is it we wait until moments like a New Year or a birthday to reflect? Seems like something like this should be done consistently, that's where the real shift happens. When you intentionally "reflect".

I've been living on this island for a year now (TODAY MAKES IT A YEAR ACTUALLY!). One of the things I've noticed is that I literally reflect EVERYDAY. I don't know if its the slow paced rhythm here, the sun and ocean breeze or just where I am in my life BUT this daily reflection has really helped- I guess you could say this is my version of mediation. Literally every day I take a moment to "relive" a moment that has happened to me this year and every time I do it I remember something that I had forgotten....this is the beauty in reflecting. It allows you to relive, remember, retain call it what you want! If you can do this...take a moment EVERYDAY to reflect I bet you that shift you always here "enlightened" folks talk about would happen a lot quicker! TRY IT!

So I did that...reflect. And here is what I have come to realize...2016 for me has been absolutely amazing. While many are screaming how they can't wait for it to be over I literally had the thought of "I'm going to miss it". In fact...dare I say it this has been the best year of my life! Although I have a feeling that 2017 is going to blow 2016 out of the water! But isn't that the point. Each year to be better than the last. The promise of new beginnings. Nonetheless, 2016 has been kind, even the moments that were uncomfortable.

This is one of the first times that I want to send the year off in celebration. In honor. In gratitude. I want to intentionally sit still and quiet and remember moments. Specific moments that stretched me, that scared me, that made me laugh and cry. This is the art of reflection. Taking an intentional moment to fully remember a moment, honor the lesson, send it gratitude and put a plan in place to move forward with. I promise you doing this is so much better than counting down, screaming happy new year and calling forth some silly resolution that we ALL know you won't keep up with after a week or two!

Take the time and really reflect. Really envision your life, where you've been and where you want to go.

It really is just that simple!

Happy Reflecting
